A WOMAN motorist made a lucky escape from a burning car at a supermarket petrol station.

Crews from Wokingham Road fire station were called to Asda in Chalfont Way, Lower Earley, shortly before noon yesterday (Monday) to find a Lexus L200 well alight.

The driver, believed to be in her early 20s was unhurt but roadside recovery services had to tow away the badly damaged vehicle.

Fire station watch manager Jerry Davies said the blaze was down to a faulty emergency battery stored in the car's boot.
