Double trouble over council's yellow lines

REBELLIOUS residents have promised to continue to stop council workers in their tracks by deliberately leaving their cars parked along a road designated for double yellow lines.

Neighbours living in Layburn Crescent have banded together in a bid to throw a spanner into the works of a decision by council chiefs to roll out a stringent 18 month parking restriction along their street.

A petition signed by 100 motorists from the quiet Colnbrook cul-de-sac has been submitted to Slough Borough Council after controversial plans were revealed to ban unregistered parking in the wake of a major expansion project by the nearby Quality Hotel.

Council workers carrying out the line marking have been left scratching their heads, however, after the resourceful residents parked vehicles up and down the road and refused to accept proposals to charge their family and friends a daily rate to park outside their houses.

The leader of the neighbourhood petition, who has enlisted the help of the parish chairman, said: 'I think it"s scandalous to be honest. We were given very little notice about the whole thing and are now being told that we are getting two parking permits per house, which we must collect ourselves, and any visitors must pay £15 per day to park.

'We have been fighting against it and people have been leaving their cars parked in the way to stop the work, the workers have resorted to using strong arm tactics and are saying that we will all get fined. There are a lot of old people on the street and its causing a lot of confusion. Mr Tucker from the parish council helped us with the petition.'

A Slough Borough Council spokeswoman said: 'The yellow lines are part of an experimental order for 18 months whilst building works take place at the Quality Hotel. They are there to prevent displacement parking from building contractors and hotel guests whilst the hotel car park is reduced.

'We are looking into the petition that has been handed in and will be investigating the queries from the residents.'

Get the bleeding hotel to pay the parking fines. it's the hotel that is being the problem not the residents! For petes sake they pay their council tax. Slough Borough Council just can't wait to get more money in this awful scam!
