Violent thug jailed for attempted murder

A THUG has been sentenced to 18 years in a young offenders institution for the attempted murder of a Slough student.
Ashley Burnel, 20, of Layburn Crescent, was sentenced at Aylesbury Crown Court on Tuesday, after being found guilty by a jury in January for the vicious attack on a 20-year-old man who tried to come to the rescue of a woman who Burnel was arguing with.
Burnel savagely stabbed the man three times, in the stomach, chest and thigh, before fleeing the scene, leaving him for dead.
The victim"s injuries were so serious that it was uncertain whether he would survive the attack, and he required intensive surgery for several hours.
One of the stab wounds was so severe, that it penetrated several organs and caused damage to his heart.
Sgt Ben Gasson, who led the investigation, said: 'This was an unprovoked and extremely violent attack on an innocent man who tried to help a distressed female.
"I am pleased with the lengthy sentence imposed by the court, which removes a volatile and dangerous offender from the streets for many years."
