MRS Ward of Caversham wrote to correct Retro about the identity of the photographer of a previous picture we used.

She said: "Regarding your Retro article on October 30, 'Is This Dad's Army?' - I don't know the soldiers but the information on the photographers is not correct.

"It is not George but Henry Ward who started it.

"Lorraine Ward was his son, and his daughter was Ivy Ward who married Henry Letchford.

"I am Henry Ward's great-granddaughter."

She enclosed these photos of Henry Ward - an avid cyclist who kept a diary showing he rode around 8,000 miles a year.

His studios were at 43 London Street, Reading.
