A bouncer suffered from a cut eye after a man struck him with an implement outside a club.
An altercation happened at around 1am on Saturday (28) between two men outside Q Club in Friar Street, which resulted in a cut to one man's eye.
As one of the men was being thrown out of the club, he assaulted a member of the door staff.
It is believed he struck the doorman with an implement.
The victim has been discharged from hospital following treatment for the injury.
Investigator Nina Parkhouse, from Reading Force CID, said: "This was an unpleasant incident which had the potential for serious injury.
"The club was still very busy at this time and we know there were a lot of people around the doorway when the incident occurred."
Thames Valley Police are appealing for witnesses.
A 22-year-old man from the Reading area has been arrested in relation to this offence. He was released on bail until 15 April.
