A MAN was taken to hospital after a fire broke out in a basement flat in the town centre this morning.
The alarm was raised at around 8.10am and firefighters from Dee Road, Whitley Wood and Caversham Fire Stations rushed to South Street but found the fire was out when they arrived.
However, two men were treated for suspected smoke inhalation at the scene and one was taken to the Royal Berkshire Hospital.
The crews used breathing apparatus and a ventilation fan to clear the rest of the smoke from the property.
