MOTORISTS are being warned to expect delays when engineers make emergency repairs to a collapsed sewer in Bath Road tomorrow.

Thames Water engineers will be closing two of the main road’s three lanes between Liebenrood Road and Parkside Road after rush hour and installing temporary lights to allow traffic to flow in both directions.

The collapsed sewer was found during a routine inspection and is expected to take at least three days to repair.

Thames Water operations specialist Bob Cunningham pledged to have the road back open as soon as possible and apologised for any disruption the repairs will cause.

He said: “This vital repair has to be done straight away to prevent residents and businesses suffering the misery of sewer flooding.

“If a sewer is damaged, like this one is, it doesn’t take waste water away from properties effectively, which means waste can back up and overspill from toilets, sinks and drains.”
