A CAR was completely destroyed after it caught fire in Burghfield Common last night.
Dee Road fire crew were called out to the incident at the junction between Goring Lane and Man's Hill at 9.40pm after the Seat Leon's dashboard started smoking due to an electrical fault and spent 40 minutes battling the flames.
The male driver had immediately pulled over, got out of the car and called for the emergency services when he saw sparks under his dashboard.
Dee Road crew manager Graham Chandler said: "When the driver saw what was happening he got out the car and left it where it was which was the right thing to do."
