THAMES Water bosses will put themselves in the firing line tomorrow before launching a month long review of its services.

Industry regulator Ofwat will shortly start its five yearly look at water and sewage prices and the company is beginning its own consultation with customers to find out how its services can be improved.

Officials will be at the Oracle in Reading from 9am-8pm tomorrow and Sarah McMath, Thames Water's head of strategic business planning, said: "Ofwat sets limits on how much we can charge our customers, but it's important that the work that we do and our priorities are based on the things that our customers tell us are important to them.

"For example, improving the sewer network so it's less prone to flooding in heavy rain, or replacing old water pipes to cut down leakage."

She added: "There will be work which we know we must do, for example, to improve sewage treatment processes to meet tighter legislation or population growth, but it is important that any plans we make for the future - be it for improvements to service, water quality or environmental performance - have their foundations in our customers' priorities, and take full account of their concerns.

"The things that we're talking to customers about now will help shape our long-term plans as well as the proposals we put to Ofwat for the period covering 2015-2020, which will include how much customers might pay."
