MASKED thugs blundered when they raided a fast food restaurant and escaped with an empty cash box.

Two men wearing grey hoodies and believed to be carrying crowbars, threatened a 50-year-old security guard they thought was collecting money from KFC in Oxford Road, west Reading, at 10.30am today. The man threw the box to them and they escaped in a green or blue Nissan Micra.

Detective Constable James Kyriacopoulos said: "The victim was not injured and fortunately the cash box was empty, but I am keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or anyone who saw a Micra in the area either before or immediately after the incident."

Witnesses should contact detectives on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111, or online at www.crimestoppers-uk.org
