CIRCUS skills, football competitions and children's sing-a-longs will light up an action-packed family festival uniting community groups in west Reading.

Hundreds of people will flock to the Oxford Road Community Fun Day from noon-4pm on Saturday at Kensington Road Recreation Ground .

The free extravaganza is organised by Reading Borough Council, Southern Housing Group and Thames Valley Housing and features a host of games, competitions and displays run by churches, community centres and clubs.

There will be a bouncy castle, barbecue and ice cream van, plus demonstrations from the Oxford Road Community Police Team and Royal Berkshire Fire and the Rescue Service. Other groups setting up stall include Battle Library, the Oxford Road Children's Centre, Carey Baptist Church, Emmanuel Methodist Church and the YMCA.

Southern Housing senior community regeneration officer Kim Jakubiszyn said: "This is a fantastic community event which is becoming an essential event for the Oxford Road community."
