A PEDESTRIAN died after a collision with a 4x4 in Reading town centre today (Thursday).

The 63-year-old woman from Maidenhead was walking along Forbury Road, near Reading Prison at 12.40pm when witnesses heard a scream and saw her fall from the pavement into the path of a black Suzuki Jimny travelling northbound.

She was pronounced dead at the scene despite fellow pedestrians and motorists attempting CPR.

Police have sealed off the carriageway between Kings Road and Forbury Retail park while forensics officers investigate.

An 18-year-old woman driver was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has been bailed until Saturday March 27 for further questioning.

Anyone who witnessed the collision should contact PC Lewis McQueen at Three Mile Cross roads policing base on 0845 8 505 505, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
