BUSINESSES are being advised to hurry up and register for this year's Thames Valley Business Awards as the closing date is quickly approaching.

There have already been a record number of entries for the six categories but there is still time to enter before the deadline on Friday, September 26.

Some of the best known names in the Thames Valley are up against first-time entrants as they fight for titles in the region's most prestigious and long-running awards.

David Murray, awards chairman, said: "We've had a fantastic response this year. It's as if companies are realising that in harder times, they really do need to shout louder about their products and services, both to ensure their customers know they are there and to help attract the best employees." The 2008 award categories are: The Small Business Award, The Business Management Team Award, The Innovation Award, The Dynamic Business Award, The Thames Valley Business of the Year Award and The International Trade Award.

The prizes will be announced at an awards ceremony on Thursday, November 20 at the Royal Berkshire Conference Centre, Madejski Stadium, Reading where the guest of honour will be former Foreign Secretary and deputy leader of the Labour Party, the Rt Hon Margaret Beckett MP.
