MOTORISTS are warned that the second phase of improvement works at the Twin Bridges roundabout will start on Monday (July 1).

Essential work to improve the busy commuter route are set to take place at the bottom end of Downshire Way, opposite The Downshire Arms pub.

It will include the widening and realigning of both the exit and approach to the Twin Bridges roundabout.

New street lighting and traffic signals will also be included in this phase of works, as well as diversions of some existing public utilities in the area.

The works will take place during the day, but with the possibility of resurfacing overnight.

Lane closures will be in place at all times.

Cllr Mary Ballin, executive member for planning and transport, said: "These improvements are a key piece in a jigsaw of the upgraded highway network that we need in place to provide for economic growth in the borough."

The work is part of a project which will prepare the town's roads for the town centre regeneration.

Bev Hindle, chief officer for planning and transport at Bracknell Forest Council, added: "We understand that these improvements may cause some disruption and ask motorists to be patient as we make these essential changes to one of the borough's busiest roads."

When the project is complete, Twin Bridges will be subject to a Section 58 notice - which means the council can protect the area from further roadworks taking place (other than emergency repairs) for a minimum of three years.
