'It's lethal at new-look roundabout'

LANE markings will be changed at a busy roundabout that has had a revamp - after News readers branded them "lethal."
Confused drivers say they have been jumping lanes around Bracknell's Horse and Groom roundabout after lanes were added on the six approaches.
The work to widen the approaches, add new road markings, traffic and street lights started in January and finished on Wednesday last week, with the switch-on of the lights.
Neil Mathews, principal engineer at Bracknell Forest Council, said the observations raised by News readers have been identified by engineers and adjustments would be made in the coming weeks.
Some readers have also questioned whether traffic lights are necessary at roundabouts, or actually cause congestion.

Report commentI had serious doubts whether traffic lights would be a good solution to the traffic problems at the Horse and Groom roundabout (particularly when joining from or exiting onto the smaller roads) but they really seem to have made a positive difference. I use this roundabout several times a day and even at times where getting onto the roundabout from Broad Lane used to be next to impossible (7.30am or 5pm for example) it's now much easier.

Report commentIt does not make any difference what Bracknell Forest do to improve road junctions. It is a simple matter that Bracknell is a bottleneck for all the A3, A31, M3, A30, M4, M40 through traffic.
Just get on with the Bypass to take all this traffic away from the centre.
It is still possible to do? How.
Improve the Camberley Meadows roundabout (underpass for the A3095, flyover for the A30) widen the A3095 from the Meadows to the Nine Mile Road. Then build a dual carriage from the coral reef roundabout to the A3095 and extend it along the edge of the TRL site and round the West of the new housing estate and pick up the A329 at the new roundabout.
Simple – just get on with it as the traffic chaos that is Bracknell will just get worse.
