A MOTHER has branded a residential road a 'death accident waiting to happen' after a man crashed his car into a parked van in a drink driving incident.

Serghei Mihalachi was convicted of drink driving at Slough Magistrates Court on November 27.

He pleaded guilty, and was almost three times over the limit at the time of the crash.

Mihalachi, of Lindenhill Road, Bracknell, was ordered to pay a victim surcharge at the cost of £34, and paid a fine of £345.

He was banned from driving for 22 months.

One resident spoke about witnessing the incident, and indicated that this was an accident waiting to happen.

She said: "It's a rat run, and because it's a relatively quiet road they have the space and lack of other vehicles to really speed down there.

"Sometimes I would hate to guess how fast they go, it's a 30mph road and I'd guess that I've seen cars do at least double that, possibly nearing triple that on very rare occasions. It's a road death waiting to happen.

"I heard the crash and went out to find one driver with a bloodied face and two cars crumpled to bits as well as the Virgin Media cab. Debris glass, spirit and beer bottles strewn all over the car and road and lots of metal bits. Driver could barely stand and initially I thought he was quite injured and in shock I soon realised he was very drunk."

She explained that she caught the incident on CCTV outside her house, and went to the scene after hearing the bang.

She said: "He told me he was from Moldova and had been here for four weeks and lived on Linden Hill Road and he admitted that he'd had too much too drink.

"He was very remorseful and obviously frightened which initially made me worry for his welfare and if he was injured - then I felt angry when I realised what had actually happened and that my family, friends and my children walk up and down Stoney Road every day, walking to friends, walking the dog, or going to the shops.

"If he had he hit a person, it would be unimaginable.

"I'm quite surprised he wasn't more injured than he appeared. He was extremely lucky on many fronts."
