AN ALTRUISTIC local business has granted a Christmas wish to a man who has not had heating in his home for three years.

David Brown, managing director of Berkshire East Plumbing installed an entire heating system for Bob Patterson, for a third of the price, and will donate the money to charity.

City Plumbing in Bracknell also supplied the entire system for free and the money will be given to Bernardo's school for disabled children and learning difficulties.

Mr Brown said: "Every year we find a good cause or a charity or someone who is less fortunate, who could do with a hand or a leg up in life.

"I have got to the stage now where I can do that and its nice to be able to do something for people in the community who need it, for no gain for myself except the pleasure of seeing someone else happy

"I have always wanted to help me and I just want to be the best person I can be by helping someone else. If I can help someone then maybe that will inspire them to one day help someone else."

Mr Brown has been helping local organisations and people in need for five years and recently converted a toilet at a cafe for homeless people to a shower and wash room so that people in need can stay clean.

Mr Patterson, who was extremely grateful for his gift, said: "I am over the moon, I haven't had heating and hot water for years and now my dreams have come true.

"In the winter time my electric bill would go through the roof because all I had was electric heaters for warmth.

"I haven't had hot water all along but now I can feel the heating coming from the radiators and I have even seen and felt hot water coming out the taps.

"What David has done here and what he does every year is marvellous, and to give me this heating. system for almost no money has touched my heart. I am elated that the money is going to a good cause."
