A FORMER Bracknell Bees player has swapped ice rinks for cathedrals.

Lee Muxlow, 43,is now working as a stonemason, which sees him work on prestigious buildings all over the country, including royal palaces in London.

Mr Muxlow started his ice hockey career at Peterborough Pirates, before moving to the Bees, and then on to Stevenage and Lee Valley.

He explained: “It’s every man’s dream to be paid to do something he loves, but for me the highlight was growing up with my team mates and playing hockey alongside my friends.

“There’s more pressure when it becomes your full time job, but I enjoyed playing with the guys. A lot of them are lifelong friends of mine.”

Lee now works on buildings such as Buckingham Palace, St James’ Palace, Clarence House and the Houses of Parliament.

He said: “It’s nice to know that our work will be around for a long time. Many of the buildings are important parts of history. It’s a big accolade to be associated with them and I’m very proud of that.”

Mr Muxlow hasn’t completely given up sport, and still helps to organise a veterans game of ice hockey with top British players, as well as coaching boxing across several gyms in the area.
