PLANS for a new housing estate with homes starting at £520,000 have been met with anger.

Residents reacted furiously to the news that the new Linden Homes development would include just 16 affordable homes out of 147 built.

The homes were advertised as being for 'first time buyers', but many on Facebook feel that is inaccurate.

Donna Pressland wrote: "What a joke- £520k for first time buyers? This is just the developers giving it a tag of "affordable housing" to appease the government. How are young people supposed to get on the housing ladder?"

Janet Beever posted: "My son who lives in Bracknell and is in his 40's has never been able to buy his own home despite working hard all his adult life. Who could afford to buy one of these so called first time homes at that ridiculous price?"

Joe Stocker claimed this could drive people out of the town due to the extortionate prices.

He wrote: "They have built the new town and all these new homes for people moving from London to Bracknell. Not to upset many as some can but I don't know many people from growing up in Bracknell who are 25-35 that can afford to buy a £500,000 house.

"People that grew up here are being driven out for the rich people and investors coming in. I know this is about Wokingham homes but all the new ones in Bracknell are around this price."

The cheapest three-bed house in the development will cost £520,000, with a four-bed at £550,000.

Amie Emery, Sales Director at Linden Homes Chiltern commented:

“We are releasing our homes at our Copsewood development in Wokingham for sale in phases. The initial houses available to buy are three-bed family homes and they start from £520,000. These properties qualify for the Government’s Help to Buy scheme. This means a 5% deposit is required with a 75% mortgage and a 20% equity loan from the Government which is interest free for the first five years.

“The release of our one and two bedroom apartments is coming soon which will appeal further to the first time buyer market with guide prices starting from £265,000 and also qualifying for Help to Buy.”
