Despite the former leader of the EDL fighting in the car park, and a shirtless man in an altercation in the bar, arrests at Royal Ascot 2017 are down on 2016.

Footage emerged on Sunday night of Tommy Robinson, controversial figure and former leader of the English Defence League, repeatedly punching a man in the Ascot car park on Saturday night, after the conclusion of the final day.

Robinson has insisted that he acted in self-defence in a statement released on his Twitter account.

In the footage, taken from the dash cam of Mr Robinson's hired bus, shows the activist repeatedly striking another man to the floor and continuing to beat him before the two were torn apart.

Asif Idris, whose bus dash-cam caught the incident on film, explained to the Daily Mirror what he saw.

He said: "suddenly he turned to the man and you could see he was getting ready to hit him - he had his fist clenched. That's what caught my eye.

"I thought: 'they can't be friends', Tommy threw the first punch and then when the guy fell to the ground he kept punching.”

Elsewhere at Ascot, a video of a topless man involved in an altercation in a bar filled with formally dressed punters went viral.

The clip showed David Eves, from Kent, walking with raised fists towards a suited man who seemed to want nothing of it.

The footage gained over 6,000 retweets over the two videos, however nobody was seriously hurt.

28 arrests in total were made at Ascot this year, all for low level offences, according to Thames Valley Police. 27 were made last year.
