SLIMMERS selling their old clothes have piled on the pounds for charity, raising an impressive £42,000 for Cancer Research UK.

Members of the 15 Slimming World groups in Bracknell, Wokingham, Crowthorne and Ascot filled 1,400 bags of clothes, shoes and accessories out of their old wardrobes.

With each bag fetching around £25, the regional group has raised £42,000, helping the national campaign reach its £3m target.

Denise Westbrook attends the Jocks Lane Pavillion group and has lost 5.5st since September 2014 and dropped from a dress size 18 to 8.

Bracknell News:

She said:"It felt amazing to donate all of my old clothes – liberating in fact.

"Bagging them up and saying goodbye was like a celebration of just how far I’ve come.

"I’ve lost 5.5 stone and not only do I feel like a new person, now I dress like one too and love going into a shop and choosing whatever I like.

"I always hated shopping before and just wanted to cover up and hide away. Not any more though.

"Thanks to the amazing support I get from my consultant Jess Tutton and the rest of the group each week, I know that this new me is here to stay. I feel much fitter, confident and healthier than I’ve ever felt before.

"Cancer Research UK is a fantastic charity and it’s great to know that the money raised from my donated items will help support life-saving research."

The campaign, The Big Slimming World Clothes Throw, aims to increase awareness of how maintaining a healthy weight can reduce the risk of some types of cancer.

It is supported by Insania singer Peter Andre, whose brother died of cancer in 2012.
