A celebration to mark the official opening of the new site of a primary school took place on Wednesday.

Warfield Church of England Primary School's Woodhurst Site was officially unveiled in a ceremony attended by the Mayor of Bracknell Forest, Councillor Tina McKenzie-Boyle, and the Bishop of Reading.

Now the school encompasses facilities on All Saints Rise, which has 210 children on the roll, and the new buildings on Sopwith Road, which will eventually hold 420 pupils.

Anna Kennedy, co-headteacher, said: “On behalf of everyone at the school, we would like to thank all the people who worked hard to give us such an amazing building and special thanks go to the pupils, who have really made it a school.

"We are delighted that our Woodhurst site can continue the work of Warfield CE Primary School, educating and caring for the children of Warfield now and in the future."

The celebrations began with a collective morning worship led by co-headteachers Ms Kennedy and Paula Jenkins, with speeches of reflection and thanks by the Bishop and Mayor.

The school council, made up of pupils from across each year group, shared their hopes for their learning and the future of the school, before the Mayor unveiled a commemorative plaque.

The celebrations continued with the planting of a ceremonial tree and concluded with pupils releasing balloons, with each balloon representing their hopes for the future.

Cllr Gareth Barnard, executive member for children, young people and learning, said: "Warfield CE Primary School is the first of the borough's schools to open a sister site. This is testament to the hard work of the teachers in providing the children with a safe, fun and friendly environment in which to learn.

“As a councillor, resident and parent, I’m extremely proud of the support and inspiration the teachers continue to give to the children in their care, and I’m equally proud of everything the pupils achieve through their commitment to learning.”
