AN elderly pensioner was hit by cyclist before being punched in the face.

The victim, in his 70s was walking past Co-op on London Road by the junction with Seaford Road.

A cyclist riding on the pavement bumped into him at around 7.30pm on Thursday, June 8.

The elderly man asked the bicycle rider to move onto the road.

The cyclist became aggressive, shouting and swearing at the elderly man before punching him and then fleeing the scene.

A number of people then came to help

The pensioner was left with broken glasses and a cut on his eyebrow and the bridge of his nose. He did not require hospital treatment.

Investigating officer, Police Constable Paul Bentley, of the neighbourhood policing team, said: "This was an assault on elderly man, when there will have been a number of witnesses in the area.

"We are also aware that a number of people came to assist the victim.

"We would ask anyone with information or those who came to the victims aid to come forward."

The cyclist is a white man in his early 30s. He is 5ft 6ins tall with a stock build and short dark hair and stubble.

He was wearing glasses, dark blue tracksuit bottoms and a dark blue top with white toggles and a logo on the front.
