A POPULAR residential park is celebrating its 70th anniversary with a 1940s themed fun day.

Warfield Park will mark its platinum anniversary on Saturday, June 17 having become one of the most largest and most popular residential park home locations since its creation in the 1940s.

The Two Nightingales, who have appeared on Channel 4, will be singing 1940s classics and there will be a range of 1940s games and shows around the park, a vintage 1947 Series 1 Morgan car, as well as a marquee showing a 1947 Pathe Newsreel.

Barry Sumner, managing director, said: “The environment we have created here is unique, a tranquil natural oasis, where people can enjoy nature and the countryside in their back garden.

“The Park has always been popular, with long waiting lists to buy or rent a home on the Park.”

Bracknell News:

The park has become a well-established sustainable community of mainly retired residents, although an increasing proportion of younger and working families have taken up residence in recent years, especially renting.

The estate was originally acquired by Archie MacLaren in 1939. But it was his son, Ian MacLaren, who is the true founder of Warfield Park as it is known today.

After serving in the Second World War, Ian set about creating the unique road network and implemented a comprehensive planting programme across the 92-acre site.

Today, Warfield Park has 509 park homes, most privately-owned, set amongst mature trees and hedgerows. The Park has its own community centre and shops, and a very active Community Association. Barry Sumner added: “We have seen a lot of changes over the 70 years; the park has grown from just a few mobile homes to the estate we have today.

“Park homes themselves have changed beyond all recognition, from caravans to the luxurious chalet-like bungalows we see on the Park today, and our community has evolved.

“We always had a close community here, but as the park has grown, the community has as well with a great cohesion, everyone looking out for each other, and residents enjoying each other’s company. It will be a pleasure to celebrate with them on Saturday.”
