HUNDREDS of pounds for children's charities was raised at a charity cricket match.

A team from Royal Ascot Cricket Club and the a group of players from the Racecourse gathered on Sunday, April 23 and battled it out in a 20-over match.

Around £700 was raised on the day, which boasted face painting for the kids and a barbecue for those in attendance.

Ashley Morton-Hunte, communications manager at Ascot Racecourse, said: "For the first time we organised a community T20 cricket match to bring together our tenants in the local community.

"The Royal Ascot cricket club fielded a team and we at the racecourse fielded the majority of a team (bulked out by a few key Colts players from the cricket club) "We also held a barbecue which raised £350 for local children's charities and a raffle which raised a further £350 which will go towards improving the facilities at the cricket club.

"There was also face painting and coaching sessions available for the children all afternoon while the game was going on. The game was very close with the cricket club beating the Racecourse, just."

She added: "It was a fantastic day all-round! We could not have asked for kinder weather and it was great to see so many families turn out to support the teams. We are delighted to have raised some money for the local charities and we’re looking forward to next year already."
