MORE than 100 adults and children attended the Disability Sports Taster Day held at Loddon Valley Leisure Centre last week.

Participants from across the Wokingham Borough enjoyed a host of sports delivered by coaches from local organisations and governing bodies.

People enjoyed Kurling, football, karate, Boccia, golf, bowls, table tennis, athletics, cricket and wheelchair rugby.

The festival was organised by Wokingham Borough Council in partnership with 1-Life, the borough council’s leisure provider.

The event was also supported by Tesco, Wokingham, who provided free fruit and water to participants and coaches.

Wokingham Borough Mayor Cllr Bob Pitts opened the event and welcomed participants and Cllr Angus Ross was on hand to support and cheer them on.

Cllr Angus Ross, executive member for environment, said: “I was delighted to spend some of the day and present the prizes at this event. To assemble so many of our disabled members of our community, supported so ably by coaches from the ten sports and organised by our sports team, was impressive.  It was clear to see how much everyone enjoyed the day and benefited from the experience.”

Each team were awarded points for team work, enthusiasm and effort and participants received a goody bag and a certificate of participation.

Medals were also awarded to individuals who displayed outstanding effort during the day.
