A COUPLE came face to face with a burglar ransacking their home after smashing his way in through a window.

Kevin and Jaqui Clark, in their early 60s, returned to their home on Madingley, Birch Hill and heard noises coming from upstairs.

Their son Kayne Steinborn-Busse, chairman of Bracknell Town FC, said they originally thought the boiler had broken.

"They saw something glistening on the carpet and thought it was water from the boiler, it turned out it was glass but they didn't know that.

"My step-dad went upstairs to see what was going on. He was confronted by the guy who shoved him out of the way.

"He ran downstairs and came face to face with my mum and pushed her out the way. He smashed his way out through the patio door.

"The thing my mum really wants back is my and my brother's hospital wrist bands which were in a jewellery box and my great gran's earrings she was left. Everything else can be replaced and will be replaced."

The burglar also stole Gucci watches and a necklace along with the sentimental items before fleeing the scene shortly before 6.30pm on Friday, January 20.

The burglar is around 5ft 11ins tall with a slim to medium build.

He had dark hair and an Eastern European accent.

The thief cut himself as he broke out of the patio doors.

Investigating Officer, PC James Greehy based at Bracknell police station said: “We are appealing for anyone who has information in this incident.

“We are following a number of lines of enquiry but we would encourage anyone who may have seen a man matching the description in Madingley before or after 6.25pm on Friday to come forward.”

Thames Valley Police is appealing for witnesses to ring 101.
