A ROTHERFIELD Peppard couple are hoping to succeed where celebrity chef Antony Worrall Thompson failed when they re-open one of his former pubs tomorrow.
Chris and Emma Smith moved to the village from London in 2006 and fell in love with The Lamb while househunting in the area.
The Lamb at Satwell, just north of Henley, closed last month when Mr Worrall Thompson's restaurant group folded, citing the economic downturn as its undoing.
The Smiths will be joined in their venture by business partner Nick Gross, who previously worked for Marco Pierre White's restaurants and he also set up The Clerkenwell Dining Room and the Devonshire House gastro pub in Chiswick, now a Gordon Ramsay restaurant.
The Lamb's former manager, Will McCord, and head chef, Lukasz Ostaszewski, have been given their old jobs back.
The new team is planning to continue The Lamb's tradition of high-quality dishes at sensible prices, with most main courses around the £10 mark and there will also be a new wine list and an increased emphasis on Chris' passion, real ale.
A new menu launches on April 1, but the pub's legendary Sunday lunch will be expanded in choice and available from this weekend.
Chris said: "After an outcry from many of the residents of Satwell, Rotherfield Greys and Peppard, the new team is working hard to re-open the pub in time for Mother's Day."
The Lamb is now taking reservations on 01491 628482 (answerphone), or via email at info@thelambpub.net">info@thelambpub.net. Visit www.thelambpub.net
