A SCHOOL has won a national award celebrating British Muslims.

The Al Iman School, in Langley Road, Langley, is a weekend faith school for young Muslims, offering programmes in the Arabic language and Islamic theology.

The school has received recognition for its work by the British Muslim Awards, in the the Services to Education category. The school beat nine other shortlisted schools to emerge overall winner in this category, receiving its award in a ceremony at the Bradford Hotel, Bradford.

The school said: “Al Iman wish to ultimately benefit the public and society at large by setting the building blocks in the lives of young Muslims, by helping their parents bring them up to be responsible, tolerant, educated and wise young adults.”

The award was accepted on behalf of the headteacher, Joweria Khera, by friend, Muhammad Tanvir. On receiving the award, Mr Tanvir said: “Unfortunately, Joweria is not here today, but I am here to accept the award on her behalf.

“A big shout out to the team at Al Iman Institute, they have done a tremendous job over the last four years and we pray God will bless us with more goodness.”

Mrs Khera, said: “We are delighted to have won this award and we thank all those who have voted for us.”

“We highly appreciate the community in supporting us and our work since we launched in September 2014. “The amazing team at Al Iman Institute are the back bone to our success. This award has been a much-celebrated and humbling experience for the pupils and staff alike. “We will endeavour to provide a fantastic educational experience to our service users. We pray that God Almighty will continue to bless our institute always.”
