A RESIDENT has called for security measures in a dimly lit street after vandals targeted and slashed the tyres of six parked cars in a single night.

Pensioner Vince Nicoletti, 68, says he has had enough after the latest episode in Charter Close, Slough.

Last weekend vandals slashed one of the tyres of his Ford B-Max, which was in the designated car park, alongside the tyres of five other vehicles belonging to his council house neighbours. Mr Nicoletti said residents had asked the council to intervene with security measures on a number of occasions – after an almost identical incident in January last year. That saw residents have their tyres slashed with a blade and cars spray painted, also during a single event.

Mr Nicoletti said: “Noone saw anything (this time), there is no CCTV. We also get people dealing drugs here sometimes at night, it is very dark.

“The council should be doing more.”

Mr Nicoletti said the car park usually had a padlock on its barrier to prevent non residents using it - but that had been smashed off in recent weeks, meaning anyone could park there.

He added: “We at least need one of these motion lights in the car park that would light up when people come in. There is one lamppost but the lighting is poor.”

Slough Borough Council said it would be taking action immediately.

Cllr Pavitar K Mann, cabinet member for regulation and consumer protection said: “We were really concerned to hear of this incident. This type of crime is not acceptable and we want to get to the bottom of it.

“The neighbourhood services team will look into this incident as a priority and go out to speak with residents as well as Thames Valley Police (TVP).”

A TVP spokesman said: “We had a report of a car being damaged between 4.30pm on Friday, February 9 and 11am on Saturday February, 10. There was damage to the tyres of the car.

“There were also reports of damage to the tyres of five other cars in the road. TVP is investigating the incident of criminal damage to the vehicles. Anyone with information or anyone who saw any suspicious activity should contact us on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
