A NEW interim chief executive for the council has been selected, and is due to start work on Monday.

Nigel Pallace has been recruited by Slough Borough Council (SBC), to step into the role of chief executive temporarily.

The council reached out to Mr Pallace after their first candidate for the job, Adam Wilkinson, unexpectedly quit the role before his first day of work, due to 'personal reasons.'

Most recently, Mr Pallace was chief executive of the London borough of Hammersmith and Fulham, which he departed last year.

A spokeswoman for SBC said Mr Pallace was expected to hold the position for around six months, by which time it is expected that SBC will have recruited a permanent chief executive.

In a letter to council staff, Mr Pallace said: "I look forward to joining Slough Borough Council and meeting you all. This is a really exciting borough with huge potential. I hope I can help you on your journey to achieve great things.

"Outside of work I enjoy spending time with my family, gardening, travel, contemporary music, walking and supporting Newcastle United."

The chief executive seat has been vacant ever since the previous interim chief, Roger Parkin, quit the council shortly after losing out on his bid to become the permanent chief executive. In the meantime, the council has been managed by its board of directors.

A council spokeswoman said the recruitment process for the permanent chief is expected to begin shortly.
