A mysterious incident that saw police flood the area around a block of flats in Maidenhead early Friday morning has today been revealed as a targeted shooting.

Neighbours awoke to find a whole area taped off as a forensic team worked on the site in Bridge Road.

Today police have revealed that shots were fired as offenders tried to break into a flat which was part of a block on Bridge Road and Oldfield Road at around 3.30am Friday.

The shots were fired through the door before the men left on foot and made off in a Saloon car parked in Lassell Gardens.

A man in his twenties was taken to hospital. His injuries were not life threatening or life changing and he has now been discharged.

Thames Valley Police are appealing for help from the public.

Senior investigating officer, Detective Inspector Stuart Brangwin of Force CID based in Berkshire, said: "At this stage we believe that this was a targeted attack and there is no danger to the wider public.

"We do not have a description of the offenders so we are appealing for anyone who might have seen four men in the Bridge Road or Oldfield Road areas prior to the incident or running away from Bridge Road towards Lassell Gardens, and then making off in a saloon vehicle to please come forward.

"We would appeal for anyone who has information or may have private CCTV to please get in touch."
