SLOUGH captain Kate McGonigle is hoping her side can rediscover their form when they face Clifton Robinsons at Upton Court Park on Saturday (12.30pm push-back).

The Pink & Blacks were beaten 3-0 at Holcombe last weekend, their third Investec League defeat in a row and the second without managing to score.

“We’ve lost a little bit of our early-season form,” admitted McGonigle. “We know we’re not scoring enough goals and obviously we need to pick up.”

Slough were facing an uphill struggle in Kent from the second minute when Welsh international Sarah Jones fired her side into the lead.

“It was disappointing to concede so early but we stuck at it and had chances to score ourselves,” said McGonigle. “We tried hard but the equaliser would not come and they got their second from a penalty corner.”

Her side defended well and it was not until the 55th minute when they conceded a second goal, scored by Emma Trunks from a penalty corner.

Slough had a chance to pull one back before they conceded another short corner which led to Dirkie Chamberlain making it 3-0 on the hour mark.

Goalkeeper Asha Tranquille Day was voted Slough’s player of the match.

McGonigle continued: “The scoreline was disappointing as we felt we were not three goals inferior to them although they were the better team.

“On our day, we’re as good as any team in the league, but we do need to show the same sort of form we showed earlier in the season.

“We have a couple of crucial games coming up, Clifton this week, who are on 10 points the same as us, and then Buckingham a week later.”

Slough men produced their best all-round display of the season so far when winning 3-0 at Oxford on Saturday.

It was the Middx, Berks, Bucks & Oxon Regional One leaders’ first defeat of the campaign and the first game where they had failed to score.

So all credit to the Slough defence to contain a side that had netted 26 goals in their previous six matches.

At the other end of the field, the visitors were looking as sharp as ever as they took their own tally to 28 goals.

Thirteen have come from the stick of Rai ‘Sunny’ Singh, the latest coming at Oxford, where Bobby Bansal and Floris Verhaar were also on target.

This win moves Slough on to 13 points, leaving them third in the table, just one point behind joint leaders Oxford and PHC Chiswick, and they will be looking to keep the pressure on the top two when they host eighth-placed OMT at Upton Court Park this Saturday (10.30am push-back).
