THE CONTRACT for the running of three council-ran businesses will be awarded next week.

The decision as to who will run the Coral Reef, Downshire Golf Complex and the Bracknell Leisure Centre will be made at the Bracknell Forest Council executive meeting next week.

The meeting on Tuesday November 21 is closed to the public and the press, therefore the announcement will have to be made after the meeting is concluded.

The land for all three sites will still be owned by the council, and there will be no loss to the council, who had funded the £13.3m redevelopment for the council.

The news didn't go down well on Facebook, with residents venting their frustration at the news.

Kevin Norman wrote: "Sounds about right for Bracknell council not doing anything good for the people of Bracknell"

David Luck said: "Disgraceful, we (the tax payers) paid for the refurbishment and now a private company will reap the rewards.. Brown envelopes GALORE"

Kirstie Welch said: "This was known before the refurb."

Sarah Boother said: "No surprise. The Council had already made it clear months ago they were looking at outsourcing there leisure facilities and I think there were even public consultation events if I remember rightly."

Bracknell Forest Councillor responded to some of the claims online with individual comments.

He wrote: "Jill - We aren't selling the land ... it will still be owned by the Council.

"And David - the Council still gets its money back ... and does not have to fund the £900k LOSS the three centres made collectively each year!"
