An application has been submitted to build 90 homes south of Sandy Land

On October 16 CALA Homes Thames Limited submitted an application to Bracknell Forest Council (BFC) to build on the brownfield site to the east of the college's sports pitches and below Sandy Lane.

As well as 178 parking spaces, the development would include 16 one bed, 23 two bed, 48 three bed and three four bed houses, along with a pedestrian and cycle route connecting to Millennium Way to the south.

The company has committed to making 25 per cent of the homes built affordable.

Part of the application reads: "In view of the sites’ allocation and the close proximity to the existing town centre it is in an ideal location for delivering sustainable residential development.

"Once delivered, the proposed development will deliver a comprehensive residential development connected to the proposed scheme at Wick Hill adjacent and the extra-care housing at Clement House."

At an exhibition of the plans held on September 5, residents raised a number of concerns.

Attention was drawn to parents who currently use nearby Hurley Drive as a school drop off point and ongoing parking problems at Clement House, a provider of extra care apartments for elderly people that was opened on part of the site in 2015.

As part of its commitment to upping housing supply, BFC is required to build 635 dwellings a year.

Because it fell short in 2015/16 with only 336 built, it now has a backlog that takes this year's total to almost 900, on top of the 635 annual requirement.
