PEOPLE are being encouraged to walk or use public transport to attend the opening of The Lexicon.

Ahead of the anticipated hugely popular launch of The Lexicon in less than two weeks, Bracknell Forest Council is encouraging people to consider how they travel to the town centre celebrations.

Advice from the council suggests that people should use public transport or walk if possible to reduce the load on the town's hectic roads and car parks.

The four day launch is expected to draw people from the across the borough and beyond, and as a result the town's roads and car parks are expected to be busy.

Cllr Chris Turrell, executive member for planning and transport, said: "We are expecting our roads and car parks to be busy over the four day launch of The Lexicon as it is something our residents, visitors and businesses have been waiting for, for many years.

"With this in mind, we are asking people to consider all of the travel options, including using public transport or walking to The Lexicon to beat the queues. There are so many different ways of getting to the town centre, driving is just one of them, so why not catch the bus, train, walk or cycle?"

Among the options available for people who want to attend the opening four days between September 7-10 are 3,800 car parking spaces in four town centre multi-storey car parks, 500 bike parking spaces in the town centre and a number of rail and bus services.

Cllr Marc Brunel-Walker, executive member for economic development and regeneration, added: "The launch of The Lexicon is one of the biggest moments in the town's history and so it's fair to assume that it will be very popular and with that popularity will come a high volume of traffic.

“The opening of M&S in July gave us a taster of just how busy the launch days are likely to be; while we have planned for the expected extra traffic, it is likely that there will still be some congestion and queuing on the town centre’s roads across the launch days.”
