A FIVE-YEAR-OLD golf wonderkid is off to St Andrews to take part in the finals of a national tournament.

Sebastian Duffield, from Crowthorne, will compete in the finals of the Wee Wonders Golf competition this weekend, which is the biggest UK golf tournament for under 12s.

Sebastian only just met the age requirements to enter as he celebrated his fifth birthday last week, making him the youngest entrant.

Proud dad Gary Duffield said: “We are both very proud of Sebastian and will support him in whatever he wants to do.

“He has achieved far more than we ever expected this year as most of the boys in his category are nearly two years older than him.

“Sebastian started with plastic clubs at about two and kept losing plastic balls by hitting them over the fence into the neighbour’s gardens!

“Now he practices in the garden every day come rain or shine - before school and after school. All he wants to do is play golf!

“I ask him what he wants to be when he grows up and he says ‘I will be a Professional Golfer’ and that ‘I will hit it longer than daddy!’”

Sebastian qualified for the regional finals at Hoebridge Golf Course in the South East England regional finals where he shot a score of 36 over nine holes to make him joint first.

At the time of qualifying he was just four, before he turned five last week meaning he will play in the under sevens category.

Both Sebastian and his dad play at the Downshire Golf Course.
