PLANS to build a state-of-the-art hospital on greenbelt land will go before the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead council next week.

Proposals for the Heatherwood Hospital would have the Ascot site completely redeveloped, with the existing hospital knocked down and replaced with 250 houses.

Next to the current building there is a portion of greenbelt land which would house a new hospital.

If these plans are approved at planning committee on August 22, the current hospital will remain until the new £90m facility is completed and operational.

The Save Heatherwood Hospital Campaign has penned an open letter encouraging as many people to attend the meeting as possible.

The letter read: "It is imperative now that as many people as possible attend to give their support.

"We urge everyone to participate as much as possible and to use all channels within our democratic process to demonstrate the overwhelming support for Heatherwood’s future, as proposed by the Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust.

"We have been impressed by Frimley Health’s levels of consultation, including with the public, and at their serious efforts to address concerns raised by residents and planners.

"We support the Trust’s efforts and their plans to secure the hospital’s future."

The new purpose-built elective case hospital is arranged over 4 levels, totalling 11,065sqm, and will be situated south of where the hospital currently stands.

To help ease congestion entering the new facility, there will also be a new roundabout built on the A332, providing direct access to the new site.

The meeting will be held at 7pm at the Royal Berkshire Hotel in Sunninghill.
