A SIX storey block of flats will form part of a 128 home build.

In 2005 plans outlining the huge Jennett's Park development by Peacock Lane in Binfield were rubber stamped by Bracknell Forest Council (BFC), with an updated version passed through in July this year.

Already 1,300 homes have been approved on the land, with the extra 128 comprising of three blocks consisting of one and two bedroom flats.

It is the height of the blocks however, with one four storey, one five storey and one six storey, that has prompted the ire of Binfield Parish Council.

Adding its weight to the 12 objections submitted to BFC, it wrote: "The dwellings are too high and out of keeping with the existing area and the design statement.

"The noise from the adjacent A329 will be excessive and there is an absence of adequate landscaping to alleviate the noise.

"There are no local amenities such as shops."

Officers recommending the plans for approval saw the tall blocks as an asset however.

A report to be seen by BFC's planning committee on Thursday read: "It is considered beneficial to have buildings of such a scale both to provide visual interest on this gateway site to Bracknell and also to help screen the houses and their gardens on the southern and eastern parts of the site from the traffic noise from Berkshire Way."

The blocks will have 'unfussy' windows, flat roofs and large corner balconies, and will be made from a mixture of bricks, render and weatherboarding.

Developers Persimmon Homes & Redrow Homes have agreed to make 25 of the homes affordable, making the build seven dwellings shy of hitting the quarter of homes affordable guideline.
