VILLAGERS long besieged by heavy goods vehicles fear their traffic woes could continue if plans for a polo field are granted.

In November 2012 permission was given to the Royal County of Berkshire Polo Club (RCBPC) to change grazing field to two match ready playing surfaces.

Despite the relatively thin roads in Winkfield, Bracknell Forest Council (BFC) rubber stamped the plans with no cap on traffic movements, the amount of time the work could go on for and the tonnage of lorries.

Now the polo club is applying for permission to level and extend one of its pitches, whilst creating an irrigation pond.

The plan, which has been recommended for approval by BFC officers, has received 21 objections from residents who claim lorries visiting the site have made their lives a misery for the past five years.

One resident wrote: "This application should not be approved. If approved once again local residents will be subjected to numerous 30-ton trucks loaded with hard core speeding down the local roads.

"Apart from the risk of speeding vehicles which we experienced recently with building work at the RCBPC, there is the continued damage to the road surface and structure by the overuse of the local roads by overweight vehicles."

Another expressed concerns that the lorries passing through previously had been large and unsuitable for Winkfield's roads, causing roads to collapse, fumes and excess noise.

As well as the fear of HGV's returning to the village, several objectors accused the Club of acting as an illegal tip.

A letter written on behalf of the Maidens Green Society claims: "We now learn that RCBPC have applied to start the process again, to which many locals fear this is another land fill operation to the detriment of the local environment.

"It has been suggested that the polo club is providing a convenient land fill site from various development sites as happened with the previous application."

Officers have recommended councillors approve the plans at a meeting on August 17.
