SCOTT YOUNG believes Chalvey Sports are hungry for the challenge to defend their Hellenic Division Two East title this season.

Chalvey won the title in impressive fashion last term despite it being their first as members of the Hellenic League.

Sports have tackled higher-league opposition in pre-season in a bid to make sure they are raring to go for the big kick and, despite admitting to being a little rusty up front, Young explained there are a number of positives from the summer campaign.

The Chalvey Chairman told the Observer: “Pre-season is going well. We’ve played three friendly matches and all against higher-league teams.

“Chalfont St Peter beat us 1-0 with a late goal and we missed a penalty in the last minute to level things up. That was unfortunate because we deserved to get a draw. We played to a good standard and acquitted ourselves well.

“We ran out 4-1 winners against Holyport and it was a comfortable win for us. I know they probably had players missing but so did we.

“We played Wokingham & Emmbrook on Saturday and conceded a penalty with two minutes to go, so for us there are positives to take playing against good sides.”

“We defended pretty well but still looked a little rusty up front. We can take positives from all three games when you consider we’ve only played teams at a higher level.

“We played well against a big Wokingham side. We defended well and created chances but didn’t take them.”

Young continued: “We’re training well with all of last season’s squad and added four or five signings to make competition for places better and where it needs to be.

“Commitment to training has been excellent, fitness is good and everyone is buzzing to be fair.”

Commenting on the new Division Two East season, he added “There are seven new teams in the league this year so it will feel like a new division.

“We’re very hungry and up for the challenge to defend the title we won in April.

“The players are committed, signed on and raring to go. We’ve lost on only from the side last season but that was expected.”
