JACK TURNER cannot wait to begin a new chapter in his career after making his debut for Slough Town on Saturday.

Turner marked his arrival with a man-of-the-match performance in the 0-0 draw with Wycombe Wanderers at Arbour Park.

The 24-year-old joins Slough from Staines Town where he spent the past five seasons having spent two years with AFC Wimbledon.

The shot stopper admitted he needed a change of club and is excited by the challenge of trying to win promotion with The Rebels this season.

Turner explained to the Observer: “When I spoke to Neil Baker and Jon Underwood (joint-managers) about the club, the mentality of wanting to win the league and having the right foundation from last year to push on just excited me.

“I wanted a change, I felt I was too comfortable at Staines, and a new challenge was needed. It was nothing personal with Staines, I just needed to do what I needed to do for me.

“The squad here looks good, even in training you look around and know there are some great players here.

“On Saturday, especially in the first half, we kept the ball well and there was real quality in the team. I’m excited for the season now.

“It’s exciting and amazing [to play at Arbour Park]. It’s one of the reasons why I joined. The fan-base is growing and to play in front of that many fans, even in a pre-season game, is pretty overwhelming.”

Commenting on the goalless draw with Wycombe, Turner said: “There was a real good positive outcome for us, good hard work for the boys, and we done ourselves justice.

“It was nice to make some saves, put my marker down to the fans and the managers in the first time I wore a Slough shirt.

“The game went well. We knew we were going to be defending for the majority of it but I was happy to help out the boys when I was needed.

“We had to change because Alan [Inns] came off injured but, even when people moved around, it looked a real good back four and defence.

“We have not got a great foundation to build on and hopefully there will be many more clean sheets to come.

“It’s exciting to play for a new club and in front of so many fans in the first game, and it is really exciting for the future.”
