A WOMAN has died near Windsor's Racecourse Marina after being found in the Thames last night.

Thames Valley Police said this afternoon that the death was being treated as unexplained but is not believed to be suspicious.

A spokesperson said: "Formal identification is yet to take place but next of kin have been informed."

South Central Ambulance Service (SCAS) was called at around 12.16am today (Tuesday) to a report that the woman was in the water at the Marina, off Maidenhead Road, Windsor.

Although members of the public managed to get her out of the water prior to the arrival of firefighters and the ambulance, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

A spokesperson for the SCAS said: "We sent a rapid response vehicle, an ambulance, a paramedic team leader and the air ambulance to the scene. Unfortunately, despite extensive advanced life support given by our staff, she was declared deceased at the scene."

A statement from the Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service added: "At 12.26am Thames Valley Fire Control Service received reports a woman in the water at Racecourse Marina in Windsor.

"Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service crews from Windsor and Slough Fire Stations were accompanied by crews from Buckinghamshire & Milton Keynes fire and rescue service at the scene.

"The woman had been rescued from the water prior to the arrival of Berkshire firefighters but Slough firefighters remained at the scene to provide lighting from the fire engine to the incident."

The Marina is close to the famous Royal Windsor Racecourse which hosts its famous Monday Night Racing events in the evenings during the summer.
