HARVEER Gandam has challenged his Burnham side to right the wrongs of a bizarre 31-run defeat at High Wycombe on Saturday.

Burnham had gone unbeaten in their four previous matches and would have been delighted to have bowled out their hosts for just 98 after 25.2 overs.

However, in an extraordinary turn of events, the visitors were skittled for 67 in 25.3 overs to fall to their third defeat of the season.

A defiant Burnham captain, Gandam, told the Observer: “Both innings were unbelievable. One was extraordinary and the other was poor and brainless, but we allowed it to happen and it was really poor from our part.

“However, we can’t allow it to get us down and have to put it right with a couple of big performances.

“You can’t take anything for granted in this league. It was weird but it has happened and we’ve got to put it right in the coming weeks. The challenge for us is to put it right.”

George Russell top-scored for High Wycombe with 34, while Patrick Castleden (16) and Kavishka Anjula (14) also reached double figures.

Muhammed Haroon led the Burnham bowling attack with his figures of 4-49, backed up by Adnan Malik (3-24), Aftab Khan (2-5) and Raminder Singh (1-19).

In response, only Sajid Ali (19) and opener Fahad Raja (11) could reach double figures for the visitors.

Cameron Parsons (3-17) and Jonathan Burden (3-18) led the High Wycombe bowling attack. The duo were backed up by Uzair Amjad (2-7) and Thomas Hampton (2-23).

Gandam commented: “We bowled in the right areas and caught behind the wicket. A par score is 300 at High Wycombe but we bowled well.

“There were a couple of lose shots, but to bowl them out for 98 was not reality, but it ended up happening. We were pretty happy and motivated at half-time, and the message was not to give them a single point.”

He added: “We just couldn’t believe it, there were not demons in the pitch, it was just poor cricket from both sides and we were worse on the day.

“It was just poor batting from us. You had to show guts but there were 10 bits of bad cricket. No-one took responsibility and it felt like people wanted to leave it to the guy behind them because there wasn’t many runs to chase.”
