BOBBY Sher believes that Slough produced an improved fielding performance to beat Tring Park by seven wickets on Saturday.

Slough let themselves down with poor bowling and fielding in a recent defeat to rivals Burnham, but Sher has credited his players for bouncing back to record their second win this season.

The Slough skipper told the Observer: “It was a good win after the Burnham game. Our fielding and bowling let us down that day more than anything else.

“Credit to the guys however, the bowling and especially the fielding was spot on against Tring - our best for a while now.

“We put them under the cosh early on with two wickets before they made a bit of a stand. We then worked hard to pick up both wickets from the partnership quite close to each other.

“Michael Payne (43*) was making a bit of stand but wickets fell quite regularly at the other end.”

Tring managed 140-9 from their allotted 50 overs with Alexander Woodland (34) and Robin Pritchard (32) backing up skipper, Payne.

Steven Green led the Slough bowling attack with his figures of 4-16 from 10 overs, while wickets also fell to Ikhlaq Nawaz (2-22), Ali Akbar Raja (2-24) and Zohaib Ahmed (1-28).

Sher commented: “Steven bowled really well and is a very important player for us.

“We didn’t have him for much of the season last year and he has been a bit of a mixed bag so far in one-day cricket, but it was great to see him come back to what we expect of him with a brilliant spell of bowling.

“Once we had restricted them to 140 we were always likely winners so long as we worked hard and didn’t think it would be too easy.”

Slough reached 141-3 in 35.3 overs for the win thanks to 61 by Fahim Qureshi, Shaan Khan (34) and Lloyd Paternott (33).

Payne (2-22) and Woodland (1-31) were the only Tring bowlers to register a wicket.

“I was confident so long as we worked hard,” said Sher. “Faisel was brilliant at the top of the order, and Lloyd and Shaan chipped in with runs as well. The top order are managing to score runs at the moment which is a good sign.”

Slough, sixth in Division One, are away to Banbury on Saturday.

Sher commented: "It's the first timed game of the season so it will take a bit of adjusting to and Banbury are always a good side.

"They are in a similar situation to us, they have two wins from five matches, so it will be a big game for both sides and we look forward to it."
