GEORGE Green Juniors have won a youth cup this season after a 5-4 win on penalties in an astonishing encounter against Burnham at Arbour Park.

The 8-8 draw saw Burnham drew first blood but it was quickly followed by an equaliser from talismanic striker Cam Walsh.

The scoreline was 3-3 before George Green got their noses in front at 4-3 before the end of the first half. Walsh bagged all four goals.

The second period opened with another Walsh goal but Burnham soon changed tactics and eventually found themselves level at 6-6 just before the final whistle.

In extra time it was clear George Green were tired but they dug deep to produce an outstanding performance, going down 7-6, equalising, and then repeating the process with a last-ditch effort to keep them in the tie at 8-8.

The penalty shoot-out had all the drama of a World Cup final as the crowd got behind the teams.

The first few went in, George Green hit the crossbar, then their keeper made a magnificent save and it all came down to Burnham’s final penalty taker.

He lined it up and took a straight run at the ball. Trying to give it a bit of loft, his shot flew several yards over the crossbar.

All that was left to do was for the Burnham player to drop to the ground in despair and the George Green players rushed to congratulate each other after an epic cup final.

Walsh scored a double hat-trick in a man-of-the-match performance, while Reece McKenzie and Zayd Fahim bagged the other goals.
