A FOOTBALL tournament and fun day to raise money for vital medical equipment will take place this weekend.

Over the course of the last six months thousands of pounds has been raised by kind members of the public for the John Radcliffe Hospital where Harry Balaam, from Bracknell, receives treatment.

The Star Wars mad five-year-old, who goes to Holly Spring Infants School, touched the hearts of the public after events inspired by the George Lucas classic raised bundles of cash.

Dad Simon Balaam said: “We are really looking forward to the fundraiser at Bracknell Town Football Club this weekend and hopefully Harry will be out of hospital and able to attend.

“This will depend on timings of his chemotherapy but we are hopeful. We would just like to thank everyone in advance who has given up their own time to organise this event.

“Without them, it would never have been able to happen.”

Hair braiding, children's nail painting, bottle flip games, face painting, a tombola, a kids penalty shootout and crossbar challenge will be in store this Sunday from 12pm.

At the time of writing, £23,305 has been raised on Harry’s JustGiving page, set up by his family to raise funds for the Kamran's Ward where he receives treatment.

Money raised is paying for specialist equipment that monitors patients' vital signs overnight in the ward. There is currently a shortage of these due financial strains on the NHS and cost £10,000 each.

After a charity car wash at Bracknell Fire Station in February, dad Simon wrote: "Harry started his fourth cycle of chemo today, he seems to be doing very well and he is full of beans, putting on weight getting stronger and stronger.

"It's amazing to see the change in him, I just want to thank Bracknell Fire and Rescue Service for organising a fab car wash. Together we raised £1012.68 for Kamran's ward."

"A massive thank you to everyone else who has fundraised, donated and supported us. You are all simply amazing and we cannot thank you enough."

After Harry was strong enough to come home from hospital, he has kept himself busy throughout his recovery.

He has washed cars at Bracknell Fire Station, was the mascot at Bracknell Town Football Club and also received a free meal at Pizza Express courtesy of Tesco.

FDD International, a company who specialises in the distribution of beauty products, also donated a staggering £10,000.

Simon also placed on record his thanks to the club's chairman Kayne Steinborn-Busse and his son Louie for their help in organising the day.
