A CLEAN up scheme to help preserve the environment and wildlife across Bracknell was led by a fast food giant.

The Wildridings Road branch of McDonald's ran the clean up initiative in Mill Pond as part of the Great British Spring Clean scheme.

Bracknell fire and police stations also took part in the event, along with St Michael's Easthampstead Church of England Primary School.

The Great British Spring Clean campaign aims to bring together people from across the country to clear up litter that blights local communities.

Shift Manager of McDonald's Bracknell, David Sadler, explained why McDonald's got involved in the scheme and said that the day was a huge success.

He explained: "This event is fantastic in the way businesses and even locals can give back to the community.

"We did a local trash walk and clean of the local environment. Mill Pond has a fantastic Bio diversity of Wildlife, from fish to birds from Canada so it is very important that we look after it.

"It was great to see the local fire brigade and police take part, along with St Michael's Easthampstead School.

"The series of events are a great way for local businesses and people to help out in their local community, with local trash walks and local environment clean-ups taking place."

Last year's event saw the Great British Spring Clean inspire 250,000 people to get involved in local clean ups and they are hoping for even more this year.

Through March 2017, the group want to inspire 500,000 people, community groups and charities to get outdoors, get active and help clear up the rubbish in their local communities.
