The brewery that owns the Golden Cross site in Poyle has pledged to get the burnt out business up and running again as soon as possible.

The popular pub which stands in the heart of the Poyle trading estate just outside Colnbrook suffered 60 per cent damage when fire swept through it late Sunday afternoon on December 18. A large portion of the roof fell in as well as internal ceilings.

The business is owned by licensee James Potter but Greene King breweries who own the building have supported him and said immediately after the fire that he had alternative accommodation.

At the weekend the brewery issued a new statement saying that it was continuing to assess the damage and ensure that the building was safe. The company painted an optimistic picture of the future.

A spokesman said: "We are now beginning to prepare plans to repair the property and establishing what investment will be required for that. The pub is likely to remain closed for a number of months, but our intention is to work hard to reopen it as soon as possible.”

The cause of the fire is still being investigated by the fire service although it is not believed to be suspicious.
