PARENTS were warned to tell their children not to accept lifts from strangers in the cold weather after a "couple" tried to lure a schoolgirl into a black 4x4.

The pupil was walking on Sandhurst Road in Crowthorne when a vehicle with blacked-out windows pulled up alongside them on Friday afternoon.

Two adults, described as "middle aged", asked the pupil if they wanted a lift and told them to get into the vehicle.

However, the youngster refused to get in the car and instead alerted nearby neighbours about the incident.

An email sent home to parents, seen by The News, reads: "A secondary school student was approached and stopped by two adults in a black 4x4 Jeep type vehicle.

"Two middle aged adults, a male and a female, asked the student if she wanted a lift, telling her to get in the vehicle.

"We would like to praise the sensible actions of the student who refused and alerted the couple to witnesses and friends nearby.

"We advise all pupils to be aware of any person offering lifts in the cold weather and not to engage with them."

A police spokesman added: "We were called about an incident in Sandhurst Road, Crowthorne, which happened at around 2pm.

"A couple in a black 4x4 stopped and asked a teenage girl if she wanted a lift. The girl sensibly said no and they drove off.

"No offences took place."
